Komani taxi ranks pass compliance test
The Santaco provincial executive team has declared Komani taxi ranks compliant in applying the compulsory Covid
19 precautionary measures for passenger safety following the announcement that taxis would be allowed to operate at 100% loading capacity.
The team assessed if all passengers and drivers were wearing face masks and if the windows were kept open at
5cm for air circulation inside the taxi. They also brought disinfectant sprays to kill the virus inside.
Passengers were issued with small bottles of hand sanitiser and Covid-19 awareness pamphlets to informed them about the prevention and spread of the virus.
EC Santaco chair Lungiswa Mfana Mabija said: We want
“taxi operators to know that no passenger may get into the vehicle without a mask.
If taxis are travelling a
“distance longer than 200km they may only carry a 70% load of passengers.”
We started the awareness
“on Nelson Mandela Day in East London. Komani is our second stop. Our goal is for people to get used to open windows before the government places the stopper system in all the taxis so that people will not to be able to close the windows completely.”
Chris Hani Santaco chair Mveleli Makatesi said: We are
“grateful to the provincial executive for support. We assure them that we will continue to do our level best to protect the people.
We want people to take
“note of the care the taxi industry has for them as we are following the regulations as much as we can.”
