Gun, food stolen from car recovered

Last Monday afternoon the Red Guard 24 hour control room received a call for help from a customer at a supermarke­t in Cathcart Road, operations manager Willie Reinecke told The Rep.

A response officer was dispatched and informed that a firearm and food had been stolen from a vehicle.

The response officer was able to apprehend the suspect and the stolen items were also recovered and handed back.

The suspect was released after the owner declined to open a criminal case.

On Tuesday evening a response officer on patrol in Western Road was stopped and asked to be on the lookout for a vehicle that had just been stolen.

Another response officer on patrol noticed the vehicle and followed it until it stopped at a school in Mlungisi. The matter was reported and handed over to the police, much to the relief of the owner.

Response officers on Wednesday had to assist the manager at a liquor outlet in town with a person who had stolen from the business and then turned violent. He was removed from the premises and handed over to the police.

On Friday morning a response officer was informed by a person at a car wash in town he had seen a suspect stealing hubcaps from a vehicle parked close to the business.

The response officer chased the suspect and managed to apprehend him. The stolen property was recovered and handed back to the vehicle owner and the suspect released after the owner declined to open a criminal case.

That afternoon two response officers on patrol assisted someone whose two laptops had just been stolen from their vehicle, parked outside a supermarke­t.

They apprehende­d the suspect and recovered the laptops. The suspect was handed over to the police.

On Saturday morning the control room received a call from a teacher at a school in New Rest who reported that someone was breaking in at the school.

Response officers were dispatched and the suspect apprehende­d. After further investigat­ion all items stolen from the school were recovered and handed back to the teacher. The suspect was released after the teacher declined to open a criminal case.

Response officers on Saturday evening attended to an alarm activation at a liquor outlet in town. They apprehende­d one suspect inside the business and handed him over to the police.
