SPAR shines at sports awards
SA women s netball team, grocery giant sponsor, pick up several accolades at Momentum event ’
The 2020 Momentum GSport Awards proved to be a time for celebration for SPAR and SPAR Netball, as the grocery giant and the SPAR Proteas raked in several awards.
SPAR, which has long been associated with women s sport, was named Sponsor of the Year for
’ its support of netball and women s road running.

Accepting the award, SPAR human resources director Nonelela Xaba said: It was a great honour
“for SPAR to receive the award. We are very proud to accept this.
It aligns to our values of family,
“entrepreneurship and passion. It also speaks to the work we have done over many years supporting women.We would like to congratulate our fellow nominees. We applaud you for the work you have done.”
She added: We would also like to congratulate
“the SPAR Proteas and Karla Pretorius in particular on their awards, as well as Netball South Africa (NSA) and Dorette Badenhorst, SPAR Proteas coach, on their nominations.”
The SPAR Netball Proteas were named Team of the Year and veteran goal defence Pretorius was named Global Woman in Sport.
The SPAR Proteas had a stellar year in 2019, reaching the semifinals of the Netball World Cup in Liverpool, where Pretorius was named Player of the Tournament.
She is currently playing for the Sunshine Coast Lightning in the prestigious Australian netball league.
NSA was nominated for the Federation of the Year Award and Badenhorst was a nominee for the Coach of the Year Award.
