What do you think about …

- NOMPENDULO CABA

On Monday, the Clicks outlets were closed in Komani after Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) activists trashed them, after a call by the organisation s

’ commander-in-chief, Julius Malema, for protests at the outlets nationwide.

The Rep reporter, Ntsikelelo Qoyo, asked people what they thought about what happened.

Nompendulo Caba from Victoria Park

I think the advert was racist. Black bodies are always presented as unprofessional and our hair, whether it s

’ curly, coarse or dry, is always a problem.

With regard to the way the EFF goes about things, I

am all for powerful protesting, but I do not think they should have vandalised the shops.

They should have directed their complaints to the head office.

Fidelia Malatoe from Victoria Park

The EFF is blowing this whole thing out of proportion.

There is a better way and means of dealing with things.

To close down the whole shop is inconsiderate of the more than 20 people who work in each store.

They are not thinking about the country, expecting Clicks to close down for a whole week.

How many families is

that going to affect? We just came from lockdown.

On the issue of Clicks, they should never have compared different hair types.

That was completely wrong.

Franco Voges from East London

I do think it is an overreaction from the EFF side. I feel they wanted something to protest about.

In the case of Clicks, they should have thought the advert through. You cannot go around putting offensive material like that out.

Thabile Moss from Mlungisi

I do not think the EFF went

about this the right way.

What Clicks did was wrong.

I think the whole thing was a bit of an overreaction though.

Trashing it and closing it is not helpful to us.

I think it could definitely have been handled another way.

Grace Ntapane from Mlungisi

What Clicks did was completely wrong and out of line. We all use their stores and our money is good enough for them, but they cannot respect our dignity.

This is harking back to apartheid. Black hair cannot be identified as dry, damaged and not normal.
