Amavarara boss will not bow to player wage demands

- NTSIKELELO QOYO

Amavarara FC chair Lusapho Mzwakali says he will not be held to ransom by players who demand big salaries while the club is not in a financial position to pay wages.

“Players who feel they should be getting more are free to submit their clearance forms and I will let them go free of charge,” said the chair of the Ezibeleni-based team.

Speaking to The Rep, Mzwakali said he would not entertain prospects of exhorbitant salaries for a team playing in an amateur league.

“We do not have a sponsor. We have recently opened a butchery to help with financing the club.

“What we have now is not enough for such contractual obligations.”

Next month the team will be back in action when the ABC Motsepe league officially resumes, following the national lockdown.

“Unfortunately we are not back in training yet because we have had problems with our training venue. The first XI is back and will be joined by the rest of the team before the October 1 resumption date,” said Mzwakali.

“We have about five young players who have joined the team. That is where the future is.

“This has always been a developmental project. If players think they are professionals, they are free to follow their careers elsewhere.

“We will use the rest of the season as a preseason for the next one. Our next target is the GladAfrica Championship. Of course we have to try and match what we did this year with the Nedbank Cup,” Mzwakalo said.

The team will host Mata Milan on October 1.
