Suspect sought after gruesome killing of woman

- ZINTLE BOBELO

Lying in a pool of blood, barefoot and still wearing her pyjamas, a 44year-old woman was discovered dead in her home in Nomzamo, Mlungisi, in the early hours of Monday morning.

The woman, whose identity is still being withheld, was allegedly found with her throat slit and with visible stab wounds to her body.

Police spokesperson Captain Namhla Mdleleni said a case of murder was being investigated and a 72-hour activation implemented to try and trace the suspect(s).

The police have appealed to the community to assist with any information that could lead to the arrest of the suspect or suspects.

“On Monday, at about 9am, police were summoned to the scene where they found the body of a woman lying in a pool of blood.

“The woman had sustained some stab wounds,” said Mdleleni.

She said the incident may have happened between Sunday night and Monday morning, and that the circumstances surrounding the murder were still unknown.

A resident, Buzani Gcinisa, who was at the scene, said the woman’s body was found in a pool of blood in her bedroom. “Her daughter had already gone to school. According to the daughter, when she left, her mother was still in bed and she had locked the gate using a padlock.

“When I arrived at the scene, the padlock was on top of the cupboard and the gate was open.

“We are not safe. People are being killed in their own homes in broad daylight. We will ensure we work together with police to find the culprits,” said Gcinisa.

A community meeting is to be held on Saturday. Anyone with information is asked to contact Lieutenant Colonel Bulelwa Lembese on 082-441-8178 or Crime Stop on 08600-10111.
