- UVIWE JARA

Inspire Academy and Sada Development, in partnership with AR Boards, hosted an exciting Komani Cricket T10 Tournament in Whittlesea recently.

The tournament saw KFC Mini Cricket teams, Inspire and Hewu Development, setting the bar high in their encounter, which was the first match of the day, from 8-9am.

Inspire Academy coach Viwe Yawa said the fun game saw the young players being coached in the skills of bowling, batting and how to run between wickets.

He said Zingce Jitana showed hunger and dedication that topped all other players in the first match of the day.

The first match of the T10 tournament, which started at 10am, was between Warriors and Inspire Academy.

Warriors chose to bowl first after winning the toss.

Inspire managed to finish their innings with 44/4.

Warriors’ chase fell short as their innings ended with their score at 36/7.

Inspire secured a win of eight runs against their rivals.

“Usiphile Modi was the best batsman of the match after he managed to bat all 10 innings of the match,” said Yawa.

The third game, between Vuselela High School and Warriors, involved assessing the players’ skills, techniques and how they read the game, he said.

Vuselela won the match by 8 wickets, after scooping 72/2 in their innings, while Warriors got 67/7. “Vuselela batsmen opened with a big statement where their batsmen had a run rate of 6.4 per over,” Yawa said.

“The last game of the day was between Inspire and Sada, where Inspire won the toss and elected to bat first.

“Inspire managed to get 72/6 in 10 overs, while in 10 overs Sada got 57/8.

“Inspire won the game by 15 runs.

“This is the game that we [coaches] ensured that our players are ready for Border Cricket trials and those who will be promoted from school to club cricket are also ready.

“We had players who performed their best such as Onelisiwe Nondumo, Ungaliphi May, who scored 23 in 14 overs, from Hewu Development, and Azange Dengana, who also got 3 wickets for 17 runs.

“Our man of the match was Ruan King who got 4 wickets for 13 runs and 2 catches.”

Inspire Academy and Vuselela High School went away with the trophies, while each of their players received a cricket bag.

The Under 12s took home a trophy.

Thanking the tournament’s sponsors, Yawa said: “We would like to thank AR Boards, Twizza and Msamo Attorneys for their unshakeable support towards the tournament.

“They promised to continue giving us support and we highly appreciate that.”
