No electricty for two months, no effort to resolve problem

- Lindokuhle Zintle Nxazonke, Newvale

An open letter to councillor Mhlangabezi Mangcotywa:

I write this letter discouraged and at a loss for words with how the municipality keeps on failing us with the electricity issue in Newvale.

The casual approach the technical service directorate keeps taking in dealing with a serious matter that affects many people truly leaves one with many questions.

Today marks two months of no electricity in my area, two months of empty promises that are made each day by the municipality and two months of no accountability.

We have been complaining about this matter for a full two months and it is still not being attended to, instead we are sent from pillar to post on a daily basis.

When will this matter be resolved? When will we get to be treated with decency, courtesy and receive value for money for the services we pay for every month?

I am one of the residents that pays for municipal services, buys electricity, but each day we don’t receive anything we pay for.

I am following up on a matter that has been reported daily to the municipality by the residents and ward councillor.

We don’t have electricity. And when we do have it, it doesn’t even last an hour. When will the matter be attended to? Why are we being treated so badly by a municipality led by a party that is meant to improve our lives and give dignity to a black nation?

Why are you not making those who don’t pay for services account? Is it because your own officials are part of these residents? Each day we are told of an overload, why there is no action. Instead these people are used as a bait till the next election.

Are we only residents that deserve dignity when it is election time? A community you just drop food parcels to with no care whatsoever for the services you keep denying us. Again, we plead with you to treat this matter with the seriousness it deserves.

Our appliances have given up, things that you will never compensate us for.

Food is another matter altogether in a community riddled with poverty.

There are matrics writing exams but each day have to find other means to study.

My own mother is on treatment that has to be kept in a refrigerator, things the people in your offices care nothing about because it is not their everyday life.
