Opinions on the street

- The Rep reporter,

With the youth having a reputation as lacking interest in casting their votes, according to the previous voting results, Uviwe Jara took to the street to hear what people think are the reasons behind the youth not voting.

Sibusiso Qona from Westbourne

Politicians are only taking care of themselves. They ask for our votes but the more we vote, the more corruption there is. There are no roads, no houses, no water and we do not even have electricity. They always make promises before elections. It’s better to not vote because we do not see any change.

Thato Gatyeni from Victoria Park

I think the main reason why the youth do not vote is because of the lack of service delivery and high rate of unemployment, even though the parties make promises that they will create jobs. They end up not fulfilling their promises because they make promises for their own benefits.

Lokona Mpongose from Victoria Park

I would say what causes the youth not to vote is because they do not know who they can vote for. They need a political party that will talk to them about their issues. We do not know which party will do a better job when it comes to delivering services.

Siphesihle Zoya from Magxaki

The reason behind the youth not voting is because of the lack of service delivery by the current political party in government. If they were delivering services to the people then people were going to vote.

Amahle Dayimani from Top Town

It is because the posters that we see of the political parties have faces of old people. There is no youth in their posters, so we feel like there is no use for us to vote as youth because there is no one who will be on our side and stand for our views.
