“As an accredited community college, we specialise in offering various occupational health and safety courses, as well as first aid and fire fighting courses.
“Our institution has a proud history of excellence and as part of our social responsibility, we annually facilitate free courses to students, aiming to empower individuals and contribute to the development of our community.”
Classes start on Thursday and the academy is busy with marketing the courses it offers.
Its’ caregiving course is accredited by the health and welfare sector education and training authority. “We will be offering a course on public awareness of dread diseases and HIV/Aids, which is NQF level 4.
“The minimum requirements for the home-based care course is Grade 9, and for the health care assistant is Grade 10,” said Opperman.
The school offers a free occupational health and safety representative course for 20 students at a time, which is accredited by the SA Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (Saiosh).
The cost of the home-based care course is R2,500, including a R1,000 deposit.

“This is a three-month course with one month of theory and two months of practicals at clinics, old age homes or hospitals,” he said.
The school was opened in 2021 in the Western Cape, where Opperman said they also trained members of the SA National Defence Force.
