Whittlesea crowd revels in X Boxing’s six-bout thriller

The crowds revelled in watching six exciting clashes in a boxing tournament that delivered straight and technical knockouts and a brilliant display of Eastern Cape pugilism.

Held in honour of Xolani Ali Kemka at the Whittlesea MultiPurpo­se Centre on Saturday, the bouts were hosted by X Boxing Promotions, La Renan and the department of sport, recreation, arts & culture, in partnershi­p with the MV Duda Foundation.

The tournament featured six fights, with the main bout an Eastern Cape Mini Flyweight title humdinger between Siphesihle Sityo, from Duncan Village, and challenger Zukisa

Mafu, from Mdantsane. The main bout was set to go 10 rounds but Sityo had other plans. In the fourth round, he won with a technical knockout (TKO) and retained his title.

The main supporting bout saw Aphiwe Rasmeni, from Whittlesea, knocking out Mawethu Limo, from Mdantsane, in the fourth round of six.

A women’s internatio­nal bout saw Azasakhe Jamani, from Phumlani, take out Cecilia Peterson, from Zimbabwe, on points in the six-round match.

Shaun Mzayifani, from Whittlesea, won his four-round bout in the first round when he took down Mdantsane boxer, Lutho Mbuku with a TKO.

Whittlesea’s Bonginkosi Solani took out Mdantsane’s Simamkele Khohlani with a TKO win in the third round.

Oyisa Gingxana, from Braelyn, won his four-rounder against Indiphile Bottoman, from Mdantsane.

Tournament promoter and former profession­al boxer, Xolani Jamani said: “It was wellattend­ed but we need two municipali­ties to come on board, that is Enoch Mgijima and Chris Hani.”
