MK party sings its praises in ‘successful’ campaign across Chris Hani district

Party enjoys positive reception, wins people over, says area coordinator

The MK Party built around Jacob Zuma is mobilising hard in the Chris Hani district.

MK coordinator in the area, Bongiwe van Heerden said: “MK is a new kid on the block. Its primary objective is to change the political landscape at all levels, to fight against poverty and the high rate of unemployment.

“MK is working with traditional leaders to restore their value as an institution with the aim of advancing moral regeneration against social ills which have infested communities.”

She said the party wanted to visit all towns in the Chris Hani region.

“We started here in Komani with blitzing and handing people our forms to join the party.

“Some people were shocked to hear that MK is also in existence here in the Eastern Cape. When we went to Cradock with provincial task team members we met with the ‘MK soldiers’ and left a message that they should mobilise others who do not know that MK is active here in Chris Hani so that we can work together,” she said.

She said party members visited Cofimvaba, Cacadu, Tsomo, Cala, Khowa, Indwe, Ntabethemba, Dordrecht, Tarkastad and Ezibeleni, where she said the reception was “exceptional”, though some people had been sceptical.

“[The] reception was the same in all these towns even though there were those who were uneasy to engage with us at first but eventually did.

“It didn’t take much to convince them. People are willing to join the MK party.

task team behind so they continue with the work of recruiting for MK,” Van Heerden said.

Their campaigning would continue until the official cut-off day.

“For now, we are continuing with our programmes and we have also visited some of the royal houses around the district where we were making our introductions.

“Now MK is establishing itself across the region, and people are excited about its establishment.”

She was jubilant about the three recent high court cases brought by the ANC against MK and Zuma, which the ruling party lost – the ANC alleged copyright infringement over the name MK; that MK had not properly registered as a contesting party; and stated that Zuma had a criminal record.

Zuma won his case on appeal.
