Nonkqubela recognised for stellar improvement in 2023 matric results
The most improved school in the Chris Hani West distinct is Nonkqubela Senior Secondary in Cacadu.
During an awards ceremony hosted by the Chris Hani West education department in Komani recently, at which it honoured the best performing schools in the district, it said Nonkqubela achieved a huge 63.2% improvement in its 2023 matric results, rocketing from a 25% pass rate to 88.2%.
Pumlani Tech High in Cacadu came second, with is matric pass rate having gone up by 47.6%, from 41.5% to 89%, followed by Tambekile Senior Secondary, also in Cacadu, with a 45.3% improvement, from 45.7% to 91%.
Nonkqubela principal Siyambonga Rigala said: “The award is a symbol of our accomplishments as the staff of Nonkqubela SSS. It is truly humbling.
“I am immensely thankful for the recognition.
“It is an incredible honour.” He said everyone played their part, from the pupils, to the teachers, who had worked hard to keep the matrics motivated.
“The school is rejuvenated. We are now accepting repeaters and are twinning with neighbouring school teachers who are doing extremely well.
“We are also bringing in motivation by awarding learners for each term and encouraging parents to get involved.
“We have organised a camp for the September trials and December finals. We have encouraged workshops for teachers and other informative collaborations.“
He said the majority of teachers were new, young and brought “a new vibe and strategies”.
Madoda Ndembe, the district’s assistant director, said schools were awarded in “13 categories of excellence”.
Most improved circuit went to the Ndonga Circuit in Emalahleni, which excelled in isiXhosa and life orientation.
Subject advisors Sihlahla Tobeka and Keith Felix were recognised for their impressive 100% pass rates in isiXhosa as a second language, and Afrikaans.
Bongweni Sipokazi was recognised for her 96.5% score in hospitality studies, and Mtyhalela Belinda for her 80.4% in agricultural sciences.
