DE­SPITE an in­crease in de­mand for elec­tric­ity, Eskom says there are no sched­uled power black­outs planned for the com­ing days. “The cold and wet weather has re­sulted in in­creased de­mand for elec­tric­ity, but the power grid is sta­ble,” spokesman An­drew Etzinger said yes­ter­day. “No load shed­ding has been planned at the mo­ment.” Ear­lier this month, a coal stor­age silo at the Ma­juba power sta­tion in Mpumalanga col­lapsed, re­sult­ing in mil­lions of house­holds in three ci­ties be­ing plunged into dark­ness amid rolling black­outs.
