Greek league off after ref­eree at­tacked

A RE­TIRED Fifa ref­eree in charge of ap­point­ing match of­fi­cials in Greece has sus­pended his du­ties after his as­sis­tant was in­jured in a street at­tack that trig­gered the in­def­i­nite sus­pen­sion of the coun­try’s foot­ball leagues. The Greek Foot­ball As­so­ci­a­tion says Hugh Dal­las will limit his du­ties to ref­eree train­ing fol­low­ing Fri­day’s at­tack on ref­eree Christo­foros Zo­grafos, who was se­verely beaten with wooden clubs. Dal­las was ap­pointed ear­lier this year to over­see ref­er­ee­ing in an ef­fort to com­bat per­ceived cor­rup­tion in the sport.
