New coun­cil to over­see CMS

HEALTH Min­is­ter Aaron Mot­soaledi had ap­pointed a new coun­cil to over­see the gov­er­nance of the Coun­cil for Med­i­cal Schemes (CMS), the body said yes­ter­day. “We wel­come the ap­point­ment of the new coun­cil,” CMS act­ing chief ex­ec­u­tive and regis­trar Daniel Le­hutjo said in a state­ment. “We look for­ward to the in­sight and ex­per­tise from the new coun­cil as they help di­rect the reg­u­la­tor in achiev­ing its vi­sion of striv­ing to be a fair cus­to­dian of eq­ui­table ac­cess to med­i­cal schemes in or­der to support the im­prove­ment of univer­sal ac­cess to health care.” Pro­fes­sor Yo­suf Ve­ri­ava was re-ap­pointed chair­man of the coun­cil. Coun­cil mem­bers are ap­pointed on a part-time ba­sis for a pe­riod of up to three years. – Sapa
