Crocs galore snapped up

- SHARIKA REGCHAND

A TOTAL of 6 700 crocodiles were snapped up at a crocodile auction held yesterday in Wartburg in the KZN Midlands.

Brandon Pentolfe of the Shallow Drift farm said about 100 buyers turned up. Hatchlings, yearlings, sub-adults and mature breeders went under the hammer. There were 8 500 crocodiles on auction.

They were bought for their meat, skin and show purposes.

Pentolfe would not reveal how much the auction generated or the highest price fetched. However, he said the prices were what he had been looking for. “The auction was definitely successful.”

Pentolfe and his father Neil had the auction to sell off extra stock.
