Minister not happy with bungled cases
JUSTICE and Correctional Services Minister Michael Masutha wants answers on some of the cases that were bungled over the past few months.
Masutha said the public was losing faith in the justice system when cases are thrown out of court.
Last week, charges against Zanokuhle Mbatha, who was accused of killing Bafana Bafana and Orlando Pirates goalkeeper Senzo Meyiwa, were dropped because there was not enough evidence.
The Boksburg Magistrate’s Court withdrew charges against the man accused of killing Taegrin Morris, 4. The National Prosecuting Authority said the identity parade held to identify Thamsanqa Twala could not lead to successful prosecution.
Lawyers for British businessman Shrien Dewani have applied for a discharge on murder charges because they believe the State does not have credible evidence that he wanted his new bride Anni dead.
Prosecutors were given poorly investigated cases that were not ready to be prosecuted, Masutha said.
