Maybe time for some rum

WITH the festive season almost upon us, all things merry will be on many people’s lips.

If people won’t be stuffing their faces with delicious food, they will most likely be appreciating a good drink with friends and family.

For those who are having a hard time figuring out which drink will best suit their mood, the Appleton Estate rum range might be the answer.

Their Jamaican rum is a versatile spirit that comes in different flavours, including nutmeg, coffee, vanilla, almond and orange peel, and can be used in many different ways for cocktails and drinks.

“That’s the reason why rums have an advantage over other spirits,” according to Global Rum ambassador Ian Burrell.

The Appleton Estate range of premium aged rums, which are now available in the country, was launched this week at a tasting session in Sandton.

“So with vodka you have a spirit that you can’t really taste, but it goes with a mixer. Whisky you can taste, but whatever you drink is always going to have a whisky flavour,” said Burrell.

The brands that make up the range include Appleton Estate V/X Jamaica Rum, Appleton Estate Reserve Jamaica Rum, Appleton Estate Extra 12 Year Old Jamaica Rum and Appleton Estate 21 Year Old Jamaica Rum.

“If you like Appleton then you like a heavybodied spirit with a lot of flavour and texture. It’s a type of brand that if you drink it, you are saying to everyone ‘I know my rum’. That’s the type of brand Appleton is,” he added.

The rums retail between R199.99 and R1 799.99.
