Spinners, stuntmen to showcase their daredevil skills

- SAKHILE NDLAZI

SPEED junkies should fasten their safety belts for the Tshwane Spin Fest taking off at Mahem Raceway tomorrow.

An estimated 10 000 people are expected to make their way to the racetrack in the west of Pretoria.

Spinners and stuntmen will showcase their daredevil skills behind the wheel while hoping to claim first prize.

The event is hosted by Sosh Spin Kingz, a motorsport company owned by Tshepang Mkhonza and Lesego Skosana, both from Soshanguve.

They have been hosting motorsport events for six years, among them the Battle of the Nations 2016, which pulled in crowds from all over South Africa and from as far afield as Zimbabwe, Botswana and Namibia.

Tshwane Spin Fest is designed to be more competitive than the other events the company has organised.

“Since we moved to Mahem Raceway to host our major events based on its capacity, we have received plenty of support from the people of Tshwane. It’s a family day event; we allow children of any age, under a parent’s supervision, to come and watch their favourite spinner or drifter,” said Mkhonza.

“We usually host two major events each year, but we got positive feedback and demand to add the third event. It was best that we listen to our supporters,” he added.

Skosana said spinning and drifting events were usually hosted beyond Tshwane’s borders, and residents travelled far to attend the shows.

“We took it upon ourselves to bring it to the people of Tshwane,” he said.

Explaining what made Tshwane Spin Fest different from the other two annual shows, Skosana said it included the best and top-ranked spinners from various provinces, such as the legendary Magesh, Jeff James, Hamoo, Sunesh and Ziko, to vie for the title.

The event starts at noon and will end at 10pm. Tickets are available at Computicket at R80 for adults and R50 for children under the age of 12. A VIP ticket is R250.
