The road signs have finally been painted
ANNE FLETCHER WRITES:
On February 9, I reported that painted road signs at the Sentrum Road and Pretoria Avenue intersection in the Randburg CBD were in need of urgent repainting. When, by April, the markings were still unpainted and I had had no feedback, I resent my original mail with a reminder three weeks later. I received no response to this either.
I followed up but again received no response. I subsequently posted a message on the JRA Facebook page which has yet to be answered and then joined Twitter so that I could address the matter. I received a response almost immediately to say that the matter was recorded as having been handled and thus closed. My response to the contrary has yet to receive a response.
Eventually I sent a rather harshly worded e-mail to the contacts that I had and this time, someone responded to say that they don’t deal with road markings, but that my request was sent to the road marking department. This was on May 26. My issue with this is that the intersection is in fact becoming hazardous.
As a taxpaying road user in Joburg, a so-called world-class city, in a year leading up to municipal elections, I would have thought that there would be a determined effort to meet citizens’ needs. The fact that I have seen and experienced a couple of near accidents at this intersection is concerning.
FLETCHER WRITES AGAIN:
I am pleased to inform you that JRA has painted the road markings in question. I don’t know whether that’s because I told them I’d involved The Star or possibly because you had followed up on the matter.
Regardless, I am very happy that after six months, the job is finally done.
Thank you for giving the matter your attention.
