Trench injury, no street lights

-

KEVIN VAN DEN HEEVER WRITES:

In September 2013, I suffered a fall on my bicycle, after a trench dug by City Power was not filled in again.

I have since been chasing City Power through my attorney to compensate me for the damages I suffered because of their negligence. I dislocated my shoulder and broke my helmet and bike computer.

The joke is that the trench has still not been filled in.

CITY POWER REPLIES:

Indications from our depot manager suggest that is not a City Power trench. It is suspected that this could have been an attempted cable theft as a City Power street light cable is laid parallel to the road and not across as the trench.

An investigation on site today found the following: The incident happened in Club Street, Linksfield, along the golf course. City Power does not have underground infrastructure within that vicinity except for a street-light circuit which is overhead. The stretch of closed trench could be a fibre-optic company due to the fact that it’s being intercepted by a manhole.

KIM KRUG OF KEW WRITES:

I live in 4th Road. About six weeks ago, and at two houses away from us, they were busy cutting down trees. To cut a long story short, the tree fell over onto the electrical wires in the street. About eight houses were without electricity.

There were live wires in the road and it looked like mayhem. City Power came out in the afternoon to restore power to the houses. This was done on a temporary basis and they said they would be back the next day to sort it all out.

They arrived late the following afternoon to restore the power fully. We asked them to please restore our street lights as well. We were advised that this was not for them to fix, but that they would inform the relevant department.

There are about five or six street lights which are out, including the one outside my house. Nothing has been done about it.
