Inquiry deadline now in December

- – Siseko Njobeni

THE COMPETITION Commission had amended the completion date for the liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) market inquiry to December 20, the commission said yesterday. The previous completion date was today. The commission said the date had been amended to allow sufficient time for the commission to finalise its report outlining the findings of the market inquiry. In August 2014, the commission issued the terms of reference for the market inquiry, formally launching and outlining the scope of the inquiry. The commission believed that there were features of the sector that prevented, distorted or restricted competition. The LPG market inquiry officially commenced on September 15, 2014 and it was expected to be completed by March 31, 2016. In March this year, the commission gave notice announcing an amendment in the inquiry’s terms of reference and time frames. “In terms of the amendment, the inquiry was expected to be completed by September 30, 2016,” the commission said. In January this year, the commission published its preliminary findings and proposed recommendations emerging from the market inquiry. The public was invited to make submissions on the proposed recommendations. “The commission is now finalising its report, which will be issued on December 20, 2016,” the commission said.
