Ezenkosi must shut back door to beat Tuks

- MOHAU RAMASHIDJA

JOMO COSMOS will have to be defensively solid if they are to beat the University of Pretoria at Tuks Stadium tomorrow.

Failure to do so might see Ezenkosi suffer their second defeat of the season against a wounded AmaTuks side who will be keen to make up for the disappointment of a poor showing in their last match.

The university side were clobbered 3-0 by AmaZulu, who now top the table with 10 points after four league matches.

The beauty about this encounter is that both sides go into it knowing exactly what to expect from one another.

The two sides met twice in the Absa Premiership last season, with AmaTuks winning 1-0 in the first round.

Ezenkosi got even in the second round fixture, Jomo Sono’s winning by the same scoreline at Olen Park.

Ezenkosi are still trying to find their feet following a slow start which saw them draw two of their matches and losing their third. They only registered their first win last weekend when they beat Mthatha Bucks 1-0.

They are most likely to be fired up to build on that result as they try to work their way up into the top half of the table.

Ezenkosi are currently 11th on the log with five points after four league games.

Meanwhile, former Black Leopards striker Mulondo Sikhwivhilu, now the club’s team manager, said his side will need to be consistent in winning if they are to see themselves finally back in the PSL.

Leopards are second on the log with seven points after four league matches.

“We had a slow start into the season with that 2-1 defeat to AmaZulu but I’m happy with how we were able to move on from that,” Sikhwivhilu said.

“Sure, it’s still early in the season but I believe we have what it takes to finish strong. The key thing is to take it one game at a time.

“Leopards are not a side should be playing in the NFD for this long. We deserve to be in Premiership.

“We are a quality side. It’s about time we proved it.”
