Soldier granted bail in ammo case

A member of the SANDF, arrested for illegal possession of ammunition, has been granted bail in the Phalaborwa Magistrate’s Court, Limpopo police said yesterday. The 40-yearold was arrested with a Senegalese man in Phalaborwa on Saturday. “The SANDF member was spotted carrying a bag in Spekboom Street in Phalaborwa. The police requested to search him and found 663 rounds of ammunition for a 7.63 rifle. The second man was nabbed on the same day at his house after 17 rounds of ammunition for a 9mm pistol were found in his possession,” said police spokespers­on Brigadier Motlafela Mojapelo. Both men have been charged with the illegal possession of ammunition. The SANDF member was granted bail of R1 000 while his co-accused was remanded in custody. Investigat­ions are continuing. – ANA
