Trio net­ted in po­lice op­er­a­tions

THREE men were ar­rested in KwaZulu-Natal on Mon­day for pos­ses­sion of il­le­gal firearms and am­mu­ni­tion, po­lice said. Spokesper­son Lieu­tenant-Colonel Thu­lani Zwane said Dur­ban’s pub­lic or­der po­lice, as­sisted by the Crime In­tel­li­gence Unit, con­ducted op­er­a­tions in Umko­maas, KwaMakhutha and Fol­weni on Mon­day and ar­rested the trio. “One was in pos­ses­sion of three un­li­censed pis­tols with am­mu­ni­tion,” said Zwane. The sus­pects, aged be­tween 38 and 45, are to ap­pear in court soon. Pro­vin­cial com­mis­sioner Ma­jor-Gen­eral Bheki Langa said: “Il­le­gal firearms are used to kill in­no­cent peo­ple in this prov­ince. Bal­lis­tic tests will de­ter­mine if the guns were used in hi­jack­ings, busi­ness rob­beries and house rob­beries.” – ANA
