Lions renew contract with Gilbert
THE Golden Lions Rugby Union has put its faith in history and longevity by renewing its contract with the oldest rugby football company in the world. In 1823 a Gilbert Ball was used in the very first game of the code and 194 years later they are still going strong. Gilbert remains the rugby ball of choice in South Africa and for virtually every international team and tournament worldwide. In a statement yesterday, Gilbert said that it had extended its agreement with Saru last year – and now a year later it has done the same with the Golden Lions Rugby Union for a further five years.
