Wedding venue owner slain

A MAN believed to be the owner of a wedding venue was shot dead when he and four guests were robbed in Umhlali, north of Durban, paramedics said yesterday. IPSS paramedics spokespers­on Paul Herbst said the shooting occurred shortly after 9pm on Saturday at a wedding venue. “Upon arrival paramedics found an elderly male, believed to be the owner of the venue, lying outside next to the pool,” said Herbst. He had had been shot in the chest and had already succumbed to the gunshot wound by the time paramedics arrived. Four guests were tied up and assaulted, and various valuable items were taken by the armed robbers. The four guests had been having a braai with the owner when the attack occurred. There were four attackers, who, according to witnesses, were armed with a handgun, a shotgun and a baton. Police comment was not immediatel­y available. – ANA
