Wed­ding venue owner slain

A MAN be­lieved to be the owner of a wed­ding venue was shot dead when he and four guests were robbed in Umh­lali, north of Dur­ban, paramedics said yesterday. IPSS paramedics spokesper­son Paul Herbst said the shoot­ing oc­curred shortly af­ter 9pm on Satur­day at a wed­ding venue. “Upon ar­rival paramedics found an el­derly male, be­lieved to be the owner of the venue, ly­ing out­side next to the pool,” said Herbst. He had had been shot in the chest and had al­ready suc­cumbed to the gun­shot wound by the time paramedics ar­rived. Four guests were tied up and as­saulted, and var­i­ous valu­able items were taken by the armed rob­bers. The four guests had been hav­ing a braai with the owner when the at­tack oc­curred. There were four at­tack­ers, who, ac­cord­ing to wit­nesses, were armed with a hand­gun, a shot­gun and a ba­ton. Po­lice com­ment was not im­me­di­ately avail­able. – ANA
