New heights for DJ Euphonik

He has only one thing in mind: world domination

- KARISHMA DIPA

MULTI-PLATINUM selling house music DJ Euphonik has been in the industry for years, has kept the crowds on their feet and has played with some of the best in the business.

But after all this time, the stage is still where he wants to be, and he wants nothing more than to share music with those who love it.

“Sharing the joy music brings me is something I want to do until the day I die,” he insists.

“The stage is the best office in the world, no doubt.”

The Mpumalanga-born DJ and producer, whose real name is Themba Nkosi, has continued to bring enjoyment to his fans with the release of his recent highly successful singles, which continue to dominate the charts.

This includes Don’t Wanna Be Your Friend, featuring local band Mi Casa, which was the most downloaded song of 2016.

Another song of his, It’s A Fine Day, featuring Zandra, which was released late last year, made Apple iTunes’ Top 10 list.

The acclaimed musician’s career continues to reach new heights as, just off the heels of these two singles, he released a new one last week.

Titled Apologies, the song features up-and-coming producer Luke M and vocalist Thoko. It is Euphonik’s first official single for 2017.

The track, which includes elements of afro-soul drumbeat, infectious guitar riff and a soulful house hook, has already shot to number one on iTunes in Mozambique.

He told The Star that the inspiration behind the single was one which anyone who has ever had a broken heart can relate to.

“The song was written by Thoko, the vocalist on the track, who went through a breakup at the time, which ultimately inspired the lyrics.”

He added that he was trying to be different and did not want to box himself into a certain genre.

“I always try to do something different and not limit myself with having a ‘signature’ sound.”

While the DJ is now one of the most successful house music artists in the country and the rest of the continent, his career has been many years in the making

“My love affair with the turntables started when I was 11 years old, and I’ve been gigging since age 14.”

“My big break came in 2003 when I got my first residency at Club Whozoo, and it has been mayhem ever since.”

He has shared the stage with some of the best in the world, including Deadmau5, Swedish House Mafia, Tiësto, Afrojack, Avicii and Martin Garrix.

But now Euphonik wants to play alongside legendary Scottish record producer, DJ, singer and songwriter Calvin Harris.

As he features on the line-up of the hottest parties, Euphonik said his fans had made some odd requests.

“A guy once asked me to sign his lady’s boob.”

With his future in mind, the DJ has only one thing in mind: world domination.

“My ambition is to conquer the globe, and it’s already starting to happen.”

In the next few months, he said, fans can expect even more music from him as he plans to collaborate with more of the best artists.
