No luck in resolving account

-

NICK KUNZE, WHO SOLD HIS MELVILLE HOUSE IN SEPTEMBER LAST YEAR AND WHO WAS SLAPPED WITH A R176 200 WATER BILL, WRITES:

The city was averaging my water usage at R27 264 a month, only to find they were running estimates off an old meter that had a fault/leak and no one had updated the system and reversed the incorrect billing.

Even though the city promised MetroWatch it would investigate, we are unfortunately still having a dispute with the leak and the bill. But in light of the buyer’s bond approval expiring and the Deeds Office imposing penalties as it is longer than six months, it was deemed in everyone’s interest to pay the bill and let the transfer go through.

The buyer and his wife want the house and I want this pain to be resolved.

Financially, I have exhausted all my options.

I think I went as far as I could go (almost to the mayor’s office) and I could see the sale collapsing. I guess you have to know when to stay and fight and when to walk away. And in this particular case, it was the latter.

I’ll take the battle up again on the other side after everything has been concluded.

Thank you for your help.
