Brown grants Eskom request for more time

-

PUBLIC Enterprises Minister Lynne Brown has granted a request from Eskom for more time to determine its pension pay-out to former chief executive Brian Molefe after she rejected a figure of R30 million. “The board has asked for more time to finalise their internal process and, in the interest of fairness, I have acceded to it,” Brown said. Brown on Sunday ordered the board to hold talks with Molefe and come back to her with a more appropriate sum. “The chairperson, Dr Ben Ngubane, approached me this week and he indicated that the process has started. However, he requested an extension which I have granted,” Brown said, according to a statement issued by her office. Molefe, now an ANC MP, left Eskom under a cloud late last year after former public protector Thuli Madonsela said in her report on state capture that there was evidence that he frequently had contact with the Gupta family and that Eskom had gone out of its way to favour their exploration company Tegeta for coal supplies. – ANA
