Struggle heroes brought home

Relatives of eight United Democratic Front activists who were executed by the apartheid government between 1986 and 1989 visited the gallows at Kgosi Mampuru II Correction­al Centre (then Pretoria Central Prison). They then headed to Mamelodi West cemetery for the exhumation of their bodies yesterday. (Inset) The remains of Welile Gwebushe, 29, Ndumiso Siphenuka, 25, Siphiwe Lande, 22, Sipho Mahala, 21, Tsepo Letsoara, 25, Benjamin Gxothiwe, 27, Michael Lucas, 21, and Menze Makhezwene, 44, were exhumed from unmarked graves in Mamelodi. They were buried on state property by the government after their executions.
