Officers arrested

TWO senior officers in the Gasegonyane Municipality in the Northern Cape have been arrested and charged with fraud estimated at R9.8 million.

Hawks spokesperson Captain Philani Nkwalase said the men would be charged with fraud and contravention of section 173 of the Municipal Finance Management.

“The 39-year-old former senior employee at the municipality was arrested on Tuesday. Another senior officer, 64, was arrested last week. They were both arrested through court summons.”

Nkwalase said the investigation revealed irregularities dating back to September 2012 during the process of selecting a service provider for the municipality. – ANA
