TWO senior officers in the Gasegonyan­e Municipali­ty in the Northern Cape have been arrested and charged with fraud estimated at R9.8 million.

Hawks spokespers­on Captain Philani Nkwalase said the men would be charged with fraud and contravent­ion of section 173 of the Municipal Finance Management.

“The 39-year-old former senior employee at the municipali­ty was arrested on Tuesday. Another senior officer, 64, was arrested last week. They were both arrested through court summons.”

Nkwalase said the investigat­ion revealed irregulari­ties dating back to September 2012 during the process of selecting a service provider for the municipali­ty. – ANA
