Refugees lost at sea
SPANISH authorities are still searching for survivors after a rubber-dingy packed with subSaharan refugees sunk off the Spanish coastline on Tuesday.
The search came ahead of this week’s meeting of EU Justice and Home Affairs ministers with the UN Migration Agency urging EU member states to reinvigorate co-operation in saving more lives in the Mediterranean, and to help southern EU states to receive and accommodate people rescued at sea.
Spain said the boat “had been drifting for days after leaving Morocco”. Several survivors, aged between 17 and 25, were rushed to hospital.
