Swift-recovery wishes for Rivonia stalwart Goldberg
THE SA Civic Organisation (Sanco) has wished Rivonia Trial accused and veteran human rights activist Denis Goldberg, pictured, a speedy recovery after he was admitted to hospital in Cape Town last Monday for treatment of lung cancer.
The 83-year-old ANC and SACP Struggle veteran was tried alongside leaders such as Nelson Mandela, Govan Mbeki, Walter Sisulu, Ahmed Kathrada, Andrew Mlangeni during the Rivonia Trial in 1963/64.
“We are still looking up to selfless cadres and revolutionary intellectuals like comrade Denis Goldberg, who waged an unwavering, fearless fight for human rights, for guidance and inspiration as we deal with ethical and moral leadership challenges that the country is facing,” Sanco national spokesperson Jabu Mahlangu said yesterday.
Goldberg represented a generation of courageous leaders and incorruptible and selfless visionaries who were committed to nation-building, reconciliation and social cohesion to overcome the legacy of colonialism and racism. – ANA
