R6m Vatican ‘fraud’
VATICAN CITY:Two former managers of the Vatican’s hospital for children will go to trial next week for misspending more than 400 000 (R6 million ) on renovating an attic for a retired top cardinal.
Giuseppe Profiti and Massimo Spina, the former chairman and former treasurer, respectively, of Bambino Gesu children’s hospital, spent 422 005.16 on the flat for ex-secretary of state Tarcisio Bertone.
They were charged with embezzlement, the Vatican said. The first hearing before a Vatican City State court was set for July 18.
