My consumer rights violated

-

I WAS retrenched from work in September 2015, while I had an account with Edgars, for which had insurance. I continued paying it from my UIF, without alerting Edgars because I was promised by my previous employer that within a year when an opportunity arises I will be considered for a position.

A year passed and nothing happened. Then I ran out of UIF money so I decided to inform Edgars, which in turn told me to bring retrenchment documents and UI19 – which I did, twice, as they kept losing them or something.

While I was going up and down with Edgars for several months without my account being settled, I decided to write to their accounts e-mail address and they responded by saying I must take documents again to the shop with the addition of an affidavit, which I was never told before by Edgars Jubilee Mall, which made me angry.

Now, Edgars Insurance is refusing to settle my account claiming my documents are late but I was paying my account every month until I ran out of money and I informed them about my situation. Edgars has handed me over to their lawyers, so I feel my rights as a consumer are being violated. Please help, Georgina. K Sibanyoni
