Manana sentence a disgrace

I AM disgusted with Magistrate Reddy’s sentence that he handed down for Mduduzi Manana. Five hundred hours of community service and R100 000 fine. What a disgrace. He should have been sentenced to at least three years in jail, with no option.

When an ANC member commits a crime, he is let off lightly. The women who were attacked should complain and get a higher court to review the sentence.

The amount of money Manana has to pay to them is a pittance. Also why has Manana not been fired as a Member of Parliament? He collects a fat salary and perks, so the fine will be nothing for him.

The courts are sending a message out that to abuse women is okay, and that there will be no harsh penalties. I hope that the community will start a petition to have Manana removed from his job and a prison sentence enforced. I am sure most of South Africans will agree with me. De Wetshof
