DUST, campfires, good food and lots of dope music characterised the 24th instalment of the annual Oppikoppi Music Festival this past weekend.

The festival ran from August 9 to 11 in Northam, Limpopo, boasting over 20 musical acts from various genres on five stages.

This year’s tribute artist Oliver Mtukudzi performed on the James Phillips stage to thousands of festival goers who sang along to every single song. At the end of his set, Mtukudzi was presented with an award by the festival’s organisers.

Performers over the weekend included Cape Town based band Grassy Spark, who kept the Oppi vibe going with their fusion of jazz and rock, while DBN Gogo got the crowd to try out their very best moves to some house beats.

DJ Bob’s Jazz Club kept jazz lovers moving with various DJs taking over the decks to give them a taste of different jazz tunes from acid jazz right up to traditional jazz.

Rap’s latest sensation Sho Madjozi had everyone doing vosho to her Xitsonga hits on the Bruilof stage.

Guitarist Sibusile Xaba treated audiences to some smooth sounds. Performing on the Top Bar stage, Xaba gave audiences music from his album Letters to Adoniah.

Campers who needed something a little more up tempo made a home of the Red Bull stage that featured a diverse dance music line-up that featured predominantly female DJs.
