NEW SERGEANTS
APPOINTED
TWENTY-EIGHT new sergeants were introduced to the Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) at the beginning of the month. The 24 female and four male officers were formally honoured with the new rank at the Public Safety headquarters in Martindale.
Chief of Police David Tembe dressed the chevrons shields on the new sergeants, who were also warmly congratulated by MMC for Public Safety Michael Sun.
The sergeants will be responsible for inspecting parades, ensuring that all officers are properly uniformed and equipped for the operations ahead.
They will also conduct quality control checks on the performance of their officers. The position is managerial in nature and comes with huge operational and management responsibilities.
Addressing the sergeants, Sun said, “Today you are not only promoted in rank but are also given more responsibilities in ensuring the residents of the city are safe.
“We, as the city are extremely proud of your well-earned achievement and wish you strength in your new appointment.”
