Top prize for stupidity

THE MAN in Burkina Faso who came up with this idea deserves the first prize for idiocy. Hamado Doambahe organised a contest to find the woman with the biggest behind.

Not surprisingly, adverts for the competition – carrying an image of two fully clothed women with exaggeratedly large behinds – provoked an outcry on social media in the West African country.

Authorities were also not amused – they banned the contest, saying such events were sexist.

Minister of Women, National Solidarity and Family Affairs Laure Zongo dismissed arguments that the contest promoted a more positive body image for African women and encouraged fashion designers to use African costumes. Thumbs up.
