Atrocities a sad indictment of SA

- Sunnyridge, Germiston

IT IS indeed heartbreaking to read about the death of the 3-year-old Syrian toddler Aylan Kurdi, and the plight of 5-yearold Omran Dagneesh, a victim of the devastating Syrian conflict.

Yet, in our own supposedly peaceful country, we have the shocking report of the body of a 3-year-old toddler found in Ntlabane village in Willowvale, Eastern Cape, with arms and legs amputated.

We read the shocking report of a woman burying her new- born alive, babies killed for their genital parts, and other horrific stories of rape, sadism and torture, especially of elderly people, on a daily basis. We have some even inciting people to kill others without any reprimand or prosecution.

What type of degenerate human beings do we have in South Africa who can commit these atrocious, brutal and barbaric crimes?

We should be ashamed of those who find gratification in these horrific acts. We too have developed a “tolerance to tragedy” and an “immunity to painful tragedies”.

A sad indictment of South Africa, its government and its citizens. We too have our own killing fields. JR Whitlock
