-

AN ER24 paramedic was stabbed and assaulted when he and his colleagues stopped at an accident scene in Ohrtmann Road, Pietermaritzburg, on Saturday at about 6pm, spokesperson Chitra Bodasing-Harduth said. They were transporting patients from another accident to a nearby hospital at the time. They pulled over to assess the situation and four occupants from one of the vehicles involved in the collision stabbed a paramedic in the face and hands. When another ER24 emergency vehicle arrived, the suspect grabbed a brick and attempted to further assault the ER24 crew. A paramedic disarmed him. It is understood that the suspect also assaulted the driver of the other vehicle involved in the collision. Police arrested four people at the scene. A case of assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm, common assault, reckless and negligent driving, malicious damage to property and resisting arrest was opened. The injured paramedic received several stitches on his face and hand. He also sustained several bruises. – ANA
