New Mandela Bay mayor delivers
IN HIS bid to speed up service delivery, Nelson Mandela Bay mayor Athol Trollip wants to fill all senior municipal positions that remained vacant under the previous ANC administration.
It seems as if Trollip, who was sworn in as executive mayor on August 18, wants to make good on his election promises.
During his spirited campaign to become the metro’s first citizen, he promised residents in the metro’s 60 wards that through the DA he would stop corruption and grow the economy to create jobs and deliver better municipal services.
And in an effort to fully understand the issues pertaining to service delivery, or lack thereof, the DA Eastern Cape leader embarked in September last year on a tour of “60 wards in 60 days”, listening to challenges the residents experienced and proposed solutions he would implement to turn the tide once he became mayor.
Yesterday, the Eastern Cape’s biggest metro advertised vacant senior municipal posts, including that of city manager, and executive directors for electricity and energy, and human settlements. Johann Mettler, who oversaw the transition from the ANC to the DA, is acting city manager.
Critical posts include: a building control officer; two positions for accounts administrator: metered services; an accountant; HR practitioner; and an artisan: auto electrical.
