Extra safety features for Toyota’s Avanza

- MOTORING STAFF

TOYOTA South Africa has improved the safety of its Avanza MPV by adding Vehicle Stability Control – including Brake Assist and Traction Control – as a standard feature on all derivatives.

The effectiveness of the ABS brakes (which were already standard) is enhanced with the addition of Brake Assist, which can shorten stopping distances by automatically applying full pressure when the driver brakes in an emergency stopping situation.

The latest safety enhancements come a year after the addi- tion of Electronic Brake Force Distribution (EBD), three-point centre seatbelt, driver and passenger airbags, ISOFIX restraint points and centre headrests for the second seating row.

Since its launch here in 2012 as a budget seven-seater the Avanza has also been perked up with a smarter interior and exterior.

Despite the general decline in MPV sales the popularity of the Avanza has not waned with average monthly sales around 400 units. Available with a choice of 1.3- or 1.5-litre petrol engines, the Avanza range offers three grades to choose from as well as a 1.3-litre Panel Van.
