BMW builds the M4 DTM Champion

- DENIS DROPPA

TO COMMEMORATE its win in this year’s DTM (German Touring Car) drivers’ title, BMW has launched a muscled-up M4 DTM Champion Edition.

Two years after winning his first championship, BMW Motorsport works driver Marco Wittmann secured the DTM drivers’ title in the 2016 season finale at the Hockenheimring on Sunday.

Limited worldwide to just 200 units, the DTM Champion Edition’s 3-litre turbo engine is tweaked to outputs of 368kW and 600Nm (up by 51kW and 50Nm over the standard M4), good for claimed figures of 0-100km/h in just 3.8 seconds and a top speed limited to 305 km/h.

A DTM-like styling package in- cludes M Sport decals, a large rear wing, and various carbonfibre aero components.

The car’s lightened by making the bonnet, roof, instrument panel support and rear diffuser from carbonfibre reinforced plastic (CFRP) while the exhaust system is lightweight titanium.

Inside, the driver and co-driver sit in M Carbon bucket seats and there’s a rollover bar where the rear seats would normally be. Footwear is supplied by Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 high-performance tyres and stopping ability comes from carbon-ceramic brakes.

The 3-way coilover suspension is mechanically adjustable both for rebound and damping.

The amped-up M4 is under consideration for our market. Muscled-up M4 DTM Champion Edition celebrates success in DTM series.
