PSL player held over rape

A Premier League Soccer player has been arrested and appeared in a Cape Town court yesteday on a charge of rape, Western Cape police said.

The sportsman, 26, was arrested in Mpumalanga on Sunday in connection with a rape that allegedly occurred in February 2013 in the Cape Town suburb of Goodwood.

“The case has been postponed to Friday April 7 for the accused to appear in the Parow Regional Court. The name of the suspect cannot be disclosed due to the nature of the offence,” police said in a statement.

The arrest of the Platinum Stars player followed the police issuing a warrant for his arrest earlier this month.

The Bellville Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit is investigat­ing the case. – ANA
