‘Quality, affordable, decorative’ items on offer

NEARLY 250 lots of art, antiques and collectabl­es will be on offer at Bernardi’s Auctioneer­s’ decorators and restorers sale tomorrow.

Most of the lots are in good condition, with only a few furniture items requiring some restoratio­n, says Michael Bernardi, director of the auction house.

“Generally, the items are quality, affordable decorative pieces that will enhance any home,” he says.

Among the lots expected fetch the highest prices are:

Monnington & Weston Baby Grand Piano (with a top pre-sale estimate of R25 000).

Antique Austrian walnut dining display sideboard with ornate carving and over-mantle mirror (R15 000).

European School 50cm high patinated bronze sculpture, Seated Mercury (R10 000).

Various Cornelius Bosch oil paintings (up to R15 000).

Finely woven landscape patterned wool and silk quom carpet with animal decoration (R7 000).

Celeste Blue Chinese nineliner floral 3m x 4m carpet (R8 000).

Italian walnut and veneer combinatio­n coffee and games table with intricate fruitwood inlay (R15 000).

Victorian mahogany coat and top hat cupboard (R8 000).

Three-piece Austrian walnut frame boudoir suite (R8 000).

Continenta­l ornately carved and gilded centre table with Scagliola marble top (R15 000).

Cape stinkwood Regency stoepbank with riempie seat (R6 000).

Nic van Rensburg oil paintVryst­aatse Plaas (R20 000).

J Foot & Son of London patented adjustable black leather and oakwood reading chair (R15 000).

Victorian walnut extendable dining table (R25 000).

French walnut double bedstead (R15 000).

The lots are varied and include collectabl­es such as Royal Doulton and Murano items, an HMV gramophone, and an SA Historical Mint Generals of the Anglo-Boer War silver medallion collection.

Viewing is today from 10am until 5pm and tomorrow before the start of the auction. The sale will take place at 11am at Bernardi’s premises at 65 Thomson Street, in Colbyn, Pretoria.
