BRIXTON PROJECT ON TRACK
THE construction of the R130 million social cluster in Brixton is on track to be completed by July.
The project, which is being implemented by the Johannesburg Development Agency (JDA) on behalf of the City of Joburg, consists of a new multipurpose sports and recreation centre, the upgrading of the existing sports fields and green open space, a new play area for children and parking space.
The next phase of the project will entail the creation of a public square, the construction of a new library and a coffee shop and upgrading of the swimming pool complex.
City member of the mayoral committee for development planning, Reuben Masango, says the upgrade will significantly improve social connectivity and interface between residents of Mayfair, Westbury and Brixton.
“The project is now 42.9% complete and we are confident it will be done by July,” says Masango, adding that the amenities will enable residents of surrounding areas to live and play together, thus enhancing social cohesion.
