Happiness is found in good health

-

WITH Easter just around the corner and the oh-so-mouthwatering Easter eggs and other delectable chocolate treats on the shelves, most of us have started indulging or perhaps “overindulging”, making our health the last priority on our lists.

I get the hype and excitement over this and many other holidays; however, we should not get too carried away. We should also make time to celebrate ourselves by taking care of our bodies. Many say eating the “right stuff” is expensive, but have you ever taken a second to look at all the pricey “wrong stuff” in your cupboards and/or refrigerator?

The Dalai Lama once said that a man’s take on life surprises him because he sacrifices his health in order to make money. Then he sacrifices money to recuperate his health. And then he is so anxious about the future that he does not enjoy the present; the result being that he does not live in the present or the future – he lives as if he is never going to die, and then dies having never really lived.

So don’t get me wrong, in no way am I hinting towards a diet. Rather, I am saying we should invest in ourselves not only through the food we eat or the clothes we wear, but by rewarding ourselves with good health; not only by dining in our comfort zones, but also by exploring the world around us.

Happiness is not something that comes readymade – it comes from our own actions.
